Our men and women in Rio!!
Its not just the athletes that have been training hard for the #Rio2016 Olympics and Paralympics!
The Games Maker Choir, made up of volunteers from the London 2012 Games are EXCEPTIONALLY PROUD that no less than 18 members of the choir are volunteering at the Rio Games.
Its well known that the volunteer spirit in the shape of the 70,000 Games Makers helped enormously towards the success of the 2012 Games and the choir contingent of the 1000 or so UK volunteers in Rio are continuing proof of the spirit of London.
The volunteers from the choir will be undertaking roles in a range of diverse sports and locations:
Wendy, Kerry and Lesley are timing and scoring at the Fencing and Taekwondo;
Pamela is Protocol at the Fencing and Taekwondo
Angela is on the Field of Play at the Hockey;
Penney is part of the Photo Team at the Olympic Rowing, and Event Services at the Paralympic Wheelchair Tennis;
Belinda and Ian are keeping track of the statistics and PR for the tennis;
Martin is a crucial member of the Equestrian Stables Team; and Suzy is based in the Equestrian Training Arena, both at Deodoro
Ali is providing Sports Information at the Shooting;
Victoria is part of Event Services Team at Rio Centro, Table Tennis;
Kay is on the Field of Play at the Aquatics Centre for the Paralympics;
Gavin is part of the International Federation Services during the Rugby 7’s;
Jenny W is part of the Transport team and her husband David and son Ben are volunteers too! ; Jenny H is ‘Beach Master’ and her husband Colin – Pilot Crew, all for the sailing at Marina de Gloria. The two Jennys’ family members are of course honorary GMC members!
Angela is Scoreboard Operator at Fort Copacobana and Anna is part of the Tribune Team at the Boxing in Rio. We love that Anna’s role is described as ‘flexible’ a word that actually describes the whole team, along with ‘happy, smiling, creative, diverse, talented, accepting, courageous, determined’, and many more descriptive words that could be used to sum up the nature of volunteers!
We know that the GMC gang and all the other volunteers will be working hard to make the Games successful and will have a wonderful time in Rio and plan to be bringing their adventures to you via blogs here on the website. So make sure that you are following The Games Maker Choir on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, so you don’t miss any of the action!
