Hockey Harmonies with our New Zealand friends
We had another fabulous day at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre on Sunday 26 June 2016 singing some of our favourite ‘crowd pleaser’ songs as well as the national anthems for the New Zealand and Great Britain match on Women’s Finals Day of the London 2016 Hockey Champion’s Trophy.
The New Zealand team seemed to appreciate our singing of their National Anthem, both in Maori and in English – one of our favourites to sing from an extensive repertoire! We like to think learning anthems in their native languages by heart is one of our USPs and we’re proud to sing them whenever we’re invited to do so (and – it has to be said , quite often purely for pleasure!)
Unfortunately the GB team missed out on the bronze medal position, but we seem to have bought them luck, as we did at the 2015 EuroHockey Championships, because they went on to win the 5th and 6th place play-offs against a strong New Zealand side. Perhaps we may become future England Mascots!
Take a look at the Picture Gallery here from the day , on another great Games Maker Choir adventure and thanks to Joe and Ben Whitcombe for some fab pics of the day.
