The Games Maker Choir sing for Sport Relief 2016

You can tell that spring is on its way when the birdsong is accompanied by singers of the Games Maker Choir limbering up for their first big gig of 2016, and we’re heading ‘home’ to the Olympic Park!
The (marginally) warmer weather and longer days mean that up and down the country, from Somerset to South Shields, and from Cambridgeshire to Cheshire, the songs chosen to entertain the participants and spectators at this year’s Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games can be heard being practised so that we are word perfect on the big day.
The choir’s individual altos, basses, tenors and sopranos practice their specific part at homes all around the country, utilising a range of clever online learning aids, so that when we meet up for our monthly rehearsals in Clapham, South London, we can concentrate on putting all that knowledge together to make the unique sound that is The Games Maker Choir.
We’re really looking forward to supporting Sport Relief again in 2016 on Sunday 20 March, repeating our performances at the last fun event in April 2014 at The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. For many of the singers, who were all volunteer Games Makers at the unforgettable London 2012 Games , the Park is our ‘spiritual home’, and we’re always excited to be back, where inspiring journeys began for so many – and not just for the athletes!
Look out for our distinctive red jackets and let us entertain you while you watch the fun, or if you’ve taken up the challenge and entered one of the Walk, Run, Cycle, or Swim events maybe we can inspire you to raise even more cash for Sport Relief!
As one of the UK’S biggest fundraising events, Sport Relief brings the entire nation together to get active, raise cash and change lives. In fact, half the money raised by the public is spent right here at home in the UK, with the other half used to make a difference in the world’s poorest communities.
The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games encourages people to walk, run, swim or cycle to raise money at the UK’s most iconic sporting venue, plus five further Flagship locations around the UK. There’s a distance for everyone and, with a full day of entertainment, including the Games Maker Choir, celebrity appearances, an Event Village filled with ‘have a go’ sports, activities and give-aways – it’s set to be an unmissable day.
