If you do decide to join us, the Joining Fee is just £10, then just £13 monthly rehearsal fee.
Our name, ‘The Games Maker Choir’ reflects that most members originally volunteered at the Olympic and/or Paralympic Games of London 2012 – or at subsequent Olympic or Paralympic Games. To paraphrase the choir’s signature song; Elbow’s “One Day Like This” the decision was made to ‘throw those curtains wide’ and open the joining criteria to more singers – to include those who have volunteered at a wider range of large sporting events.
We have great fun and an ever growing repertoire, plus inspiring teachers and singing aides to help you along the way, so don’t be shy about getting in touch.
We generally rehearse on the first Saturday of each month in Battersea, south London at St Michael’s Church, Battersea – a short walk or bus ride from Clapham Junction railway station, with members travelling from all over the country.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the choir has adapted to rehearsals delivered over ‘Zoom’, and we’ve recently held our first ‘blended’ rehearsal, with some members of the choir attending a ‘socially distanced’ live rehearsal in the church, and others ‘attending’ the rehearsal from home via ‘Zoom’ – and it all worked very well. Read the full report on our Facebook page.
We have a lively programme of social events too, keeping choir members engaged and entertained during the current restrictions, again delivered mainly by Zoom – for the time being.
We are looking forward to performing again at some iconic venues too. Wembley Stadium, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Twickenham Stadium are just a few that we have been fortunate enough to sing at.
