Games Maker Choir singers and friends flexing their sporting volunteer muscles again!
It’s been super exciting to follow several musical friends volunteering in a selection of roles to help deliver a successful Euros 2020 football tournament in London recently.
Based at different locations in and around Wembley Arena and Stadium and in a wide range of roles, it was lovely following their adventures via social media and seeing their great pictures shared with friends and fellow choir members.
Clare, Su, Helen and husband Jonathan, Jenny, Nic, Allan, Martin and our friend from The Pandemonium Drummers Jan, all had different roles and unforgettable experiences as these colourful images will testify.
Roles were as varied as: the all important Accreditation administration for everyone involved in the huge and well organised tournament; driving the smart electric cars around London picking up from airport to hotel or from stadium to hotel; supporting and monitoring the drivers as part of the Fleet Operations Team – including the comings and goings of the very impressive Team Coaches; supporting the press tribune, including UK and European journalists and photographers, to being part of the pre match ceremonies on the Field of Play.
Running one of the two Spectator Information Points at all 8 Wembley matches – 6 of them involving England – with a team of around 40 enthusiastic volunteers, was also a very important role.
The choir has several members who are competing for championship status in the sports volunteering stakes.
One of several ‘premier league’ volunteers is Penney, who was initially signed up to volunteer at the Euros too, but opted instead to help in the distribution of the Tokyo 2020 kit to our fabulous Team GB athletes ahead of the next global sporting event! But that as they say, is another story!
As Martin said, “It was great to be part of a large volunteer sports event again!”
It must be true – he’s currently settling in to his latest volunteer role on the other side of the world – at Tokyo 2020!!
If you’re a sporting volunteer and love to sing, why not consider joining the Games Maker Choir.
